St. Augustine Adventure

The humans had a busy day---I'm worn out listening to Nancy tell me about it!  While I was in the trailer curled up on the bed, they were out on the beach----on Segways!

Not to far from Anastasia State Park, where we are staying, is Tour by the Sea .  Its a place that rents Segways.  The owner, Mark Broadus, gave them a lesson on how to ride the things and once he felt they were proficient, he led them down to St. Augustine Beach and turned them lose.  They had an hour to go anywhere on the beach they wanted.  They ended up traveling about seven miles total and loved every minute of it.  I guess they are pretty intuitive; just lean the direction you want to go and it responds.  Nancy said that it was rather like riding a well trained horse.

I noticed something strange when we came here and Nancy figured it out this afternoon.  I saw some orange flags in buckets on poles along A1A Beach and couldn't figure out what they were for.  They are to help people cross the street where there isn't a light or an intersection.  When you want to cross, just walk in the crosswalk and carry the flag across with you so cars can see you.  There is a bucket on the other side to deposit the flag for the next person.  How is that for a simple solution for a complex problem!

On they way home, they stopped at a restaurant that Nancy found in the AAA book and was rated pretty high---a place called Saltwater Cowboys.  Ron has declared that he has found his new favorite restaurant.  Very good seafood (served with a citrus chutney) and other local treats, such as gator tail, oysters, and bar-b-que.  The salad was well done and tasty with pear and apples in it and all the warm cheese bread you want.  Needless to say, there was no kitty bag for me tonight--they ate it all!  Best of all was the setting for the place----in a salt marsh!  Inside and out it looks like a Florida Cracker house, complete with stuffed wildlife.

Last, but not least, they stopped at the lighthouse on the way home.  It wasn't open, but Nancy was still able to get a good picture of it.  It is neat at night because it is an active lighthouse and you can see the light as you come into the campground.

About Me

My photo
I am a Swantonian Bushcat. (I was born under a bush in Swanton Ohio),but my people think that I have a lot of Chartreaux in my bloodline because I pray for what I want, am very quiet, lay on my back a lot, and am shaped much like a potato on toothpicks.
