Okeefenokee Swamp and North to Michigan.

We are back in Michigan--we have been here since April 1, but as usual I'm slow getting the last blog post for the trip posted.  It is cool (cold) here---I think my humans came home way too soon.  It is really hard to type wrapped up in a blanket!

St.  Augustine Harbor

Our story left off in St. Augustine Fl, the day my humans took a Segway ride on the beach.  The next day they left me again to explore Old St. Augustine and the surrounding area.  Then the next morning we packed up and left Anastasia State Park and headed north to Waycross GA and Laura S. Walker State Park.

It was a beautiful park along a lake.  I could see both the lake and a lot of the park from my window.  The neatest thing (at least for the humans) about the park, is that it is on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp.  They got up bright and early and set off for a boat tour of the huge swamp.  There are three tours available of the swamp.  The one nearest to the campground is privately owned and is more commercialized than the tours given at the  Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge by  the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. They chose the latter.  They saw lots of birds (maybe I should have gone along) and alligators while riding in a flat bottom boat along a canal and then out into the swamp itself--call the prairie.  (On second thought---alligators and a boat ride--not for me!)  Check out the links above.  They can tell you a lot more that I can about the adventure.

We were only there two nights and then it was time to head home to Michigan.  Our trip home was pretty uneventful until we got a little north of Cincinnati Ohio.  I heard a loud bang and Ron quickly pulled over to the berm.  We had a flat tire on the trailer!  Nancy grabbed me and shoved me into my hard cage---I guess so I wouldn't be scared or maybe get out while they figured out what had to be done.  Finally, AAA came and put on the spare and we were on our way after spending about 90 minutes along the freeway.
Oops!

We finally got home late Saturday night.  The whole family came and brought Easter dinner for us.  It was good to see everyone (I wouldn't admit it, but it was even good to see Dirk's dog Frankie, who came along with him.)

We are going to be traveling more this summer.  Our first trip is going to be to the Cleveland area---just as soon as the weather breaks.

About Me

My photo
I am a Swantonian Bushcat. (I was born under a bush in Swanton Ohio),but my people think that I have a lot of Chartreaux in my bloodline because I pray for what I want, am very quiet, lay on my back a lot, and am shaped much like a potato on toothpicks.
