Monday

Hi from Melbourne---yep, we are still here. For the most part the weather has been great and Ron and Nancy have been spending almost every day at the beach. It has been cooler (low 70s) and a little cloudy, so they haven’t made it there in couple days.

Last Monday they got new tires for the truck. I hope it still rides as smooth as it did. We got them at Sears. Ron was saying that this is the second time he had to get tires after he got to Melbourne. In 1976 they got down here and had a bulge in a sidewall of one of the Torino wagon’s tires. He got the new one at the same Sears store!

Last week there was a Mardi Gras dance here at the campground and I could see all the festivities, and my humans dancing, from my perch here on the back of the couch in the camper. Then last Thursday evening the campers had a potluck. (again, I could see all the campers----AND all that yummy food from the camper! Luckily Ron gave me a taste of what they took before they left). Saturday was the annual Strawberry Festival at the Pavilion. There was a car show, craft booths, and live entertainment. We could hear the bands from the camper. R&N went over and each had a big strawberry shortcake and checked out the cars and crafts. Saturday night there was a movie in the park---something about owls. There were lots of people there with food vendors supplying snacks. We could hear it, but not see it from the camper.

I got to help Ron check out the camper cap wiring.(see picture). Last Friday they went to Merritt Island Nature preserve and then Canaveral National Seashore. They both are National Parks—so Nancy got two more stamps in her National Park book. It was raining when they drove through the preserve, but Nancy got to see the roseate spoonbills she had hoped to see. The park encompasses an area that used to be the river town of Eldora. One house and the boat landing have been restored. They had a very interesting movie about the settlement and eventual demise of the town. Also there is a huge shell mound that has a stairway built over it so one can walk to the top of it. It is over 600' tall! The National seashore was beautiful----20+ miles of undeveloped beach.

We are going to be here another two weeks then on to Anastasia State Park near Jacksonville.

I discovered that I don’t need an opposing thumb to eat Twinkies (one of my all time favorite foods). They left the box of Twinkies on the table and I was able to get it open and extract one bagged Twinkie and tear it open with my teeth!!! I was just ready to chomp into it when Nancy came back into the camper, whisked the box away and grabbed the Twinkie. All got put into the microwave-----darn----I can’t reach the door and if I could, I would need that thumb to get it open-----oh will, it was fun while it lasted. Guess I’m going have to grow that opposing thumb afterall!

About Me

My photo
I am a Swantonian Bushcat. (I was born under a bush in Swanton Ohio),but my people think that I have a lot of Chartreaux in my bloodline because I pray for what I want, am very quiet, lay on my back a lot, and am shaped much like a potato on toothpicks.
