We've moved again---This time to Wickham Park in Melbourne. It is a little north of Sebastian Inlet but still south of Cocoa Beach and a couple miles from the ocean.
The humans spent most of the time at Sebastian enjoying the water--either the beach at the ocean or along the Indian River. We were pretty much surrounded by water----which meant lots of birds for me to watch. One day the humans went to a treasure museum (part of the State Park). The Sebastian area is called the Treasure Coast because 11 ships sunk off the coast in a hurricane in 1715. They were carrying lots of gold, jewelry and silver. The bulk of the treasure wasn't found until mid 1960's and some of it is still out there. It often washes up on the shore----just waiting for someone to pick up. (I wonder if any of the ships were carrying cat treats-----I might even get close to the big waves to find that! They took me to look at the ocean this morning----I really didn't like it, but I did look).
They also visited McKee Gardens in Vero Beach. In the ‘30’s it was an 80 acre Jungle Garden that people came to visit by the thousands. There were “wild” animals ,tropical plantings and animal shows. It was mostly abandoned for 20 years and most of the land sold off for housing. Today it has been rebuilt as 17 acre botanical garden. Few parts of the old place are left but it was beautiful and there was an art glass show throughout the garden. The art work was by a German artist named Frabel. One of his bowls for sale in the gift shop was priced at $3500.00! I guess it looked like a glass colander. The picture shows some of his Longfellow figures, which were scattered around the park.
Another day they packed a picnic and spent the day at the State Park by the inlet---sitting on the beach, wading in the tidal pool, touring a fishermen's museum.
I have internet now---but we have to go to the office to pick-up the wireless. Luckily there is a nice picnic table with electrical outlet under a gazebo close to the wi-fi. So---there will be updates more often.
