Melbourne Florida

Hello again from Florida!  We have been here since Dec 20, but my humans have been so busy they haven’t had time to turn on the computer for me.  Nancy got a new laptop over the summer and the switch is on the side.  I could just push down on the button on the old one with my paw.  Guess I need to start working on growing that opposing thumb again!

When we left home I couldn’t figure out what was going on because Dirk was driving and my humans were riding along like me. Eventually Ron and Dirk took turns driving. It wasn’t too bad.  Dirk learned how to share the center console with me and things went smoothly.  The trip down was different.  For the first time we came straight to Wickham Park in Melbourne. The first night on the road was spent at Kentucky Horse Park in Louisville.  We didn’t get to see the Christmas lights this year because they are now charging campers to drive through.  (It cost more to drive through the lights than it did to camp!).  The next night we were in Forsythe Georgia.  We made it to Melbourne late afternoon on the 20th.

As we pulled into the campground several of our friends were waiting along the road for us.  They all came over and helped Ron and Dirk set up and even brought us supper!  Our sewer connection was broken (I guess another camper ran over it) and the guys all worked on fixing it enough so we could use is for the night.  What great friends!

Dirk stayed until Wednesday morning (he was supposed to leave on Tuesday, but his flight got cancelled) so the humans spent time showing him around.  They spent time on the beach and went out to eat, rode bikes, and played cards with other campers.  He isn’t as bad as I thought he was and I hardly even tried to bite him much. ---Ok,Ok I slipped up once when I was hiding beside the bed and he tried to get me out.  I was warm and they wanted to put me back in the cold truck---you really can’t blame me.  Monday night everyone went to the beach and watched a rocket take off.  For the first time they were able to successfully land the rocket on land after the payload went on its way.   (Ron said it was just like the Buck Rodgers movies he watched as a kid).  They had a great view and watched the rocket go up, separate, and then the rocket came back to earth and softly landed at Cape Canaveral.

One night a bunch of campers all piled into the backs of four or five pick-up trucks and drove through the Christmas light display here in the park.  It was even better than last year. Christmas Eve they left me to guard the Christmas tree while they went to church and out to eat Chinese with friends.  They came back and played Sequence with some other people.  Christmas Day they got up early to cook a pork roast, dressing and gravy for the Christmas pot luck.  I couldn’t see them this year, because it was held at a campsite at the end of our loop.
Things have seemed to settle into the usual routine here:  Eating out, riding bikes, playing cards, exploring.

Yesterday they went with friends to check out a garage sale and ended up exploring an abandoned subdivision.  There were lots of people riding four wheelers around it and deep in the center there were motorcycle races.  After a stop at a state park to check out a dam on the Sebastian River, they ate at Ruby Tuesdays.  Today I thought they were going to stay home but the satellite receiver gave up and they ended up going with the neighbors to Camper’s World to get a new one and decided to eat at Florida Seafood on the way home.  Tomorrow is the weekly coffee in the morning.  I like it because I can see everyone out of our window.  It has been really hot here---maybe the humans will go to the beach and let me get some rest in the air-conditioning.

About Me

My photo
I am a Swantonian Bushcat. (I was born under a bush in Swanton Ohio),but my people think that I have a lot of Chartreaux in my bloodline because I pray for what I want, am very quiet, lay on my back a lot, and am shaped much like a potato on toothpicks.
