Our time here at Wickham Park here in Melbourne Florida is
quickly coming to an end. We are
planning on leaving in a couple days. The
humans have done so much, and there is so much more that they want to do---I
wonder if they will get it all in?

Last week they went for a ride with the neighbors, Bob and Gwen from Indiana. This seems to be a common thing with the four
of them- there have been several day trips to places in the area. On the last trip they headed south to Sebastian area to
check out the largest manufactured home park in the nation----5000 homes! They
drove along the Indian River on Jungle Trail, ate at an Italian restaurant,
and then played cards in the evening. They
usually don’t play on Mondays, but a couple from New Hampshire is leaving in
the morning and they wanted to play cards one more time. Other day trips have included a trip through
the
Canaveral National Seashore near Titusville, the
Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area
near Christmas, and several locations in the
Upper St. Johns River Basin. A couple days ago R&N took some new friends from Nova Scotia to the
McLarty Treasure House in Sebastian Inlet and then out to eat at
Captain Hirams.
Lots of the winter residents are heading out. There are only four or five
couples left and every one of the winter residents (including us) will be on the road by the 16th.
Over the past month there has been lots going on. Coffee and donuts every Tuesday and a full
breakfast of eggs and pancakes one Tuesday.
They had a dance a couple weeks ago to say good-by to several of our new
friends. At the last minute, the regular
DJ got sick and Nancy rounded up some music and Ron rigged up speakers and
became the DJ. Every other Thursday the
ladies all went out

to eat together and on the last get-together the men came
along and they all (over 50 people) ate at a restaurant on the river called
Squid Lips. They also had a
beach day where about 30 met for a picnic and swimming on the beach.

Near the end of last month there was a country western concert in the park called
Run Away Country. It lasted three days and there were 900 extra
campsites throughout the park. The base
was so loud that it made our floor vibrate (I figured out how not to walk on
it!). Among the acts were Blake Sheldon
and Florida Georgia Line. Attendance
figures were estimated at 40,000. The
regulars at the campground had potlucks both Friday and Saturday night. It was hard to get through the crowds, so
they all ate in. Friday was a sausage gravy breakfast supper (they had to eat up all the sausage gravy left over from one
of the breakfasts) and Saturday everyone brought sloppy joes and mixed them
together for sandwiches and shared dishes to pass. I could see the party from my perch in the window--several people brought dogs to the suppers--I didn't see any cats. I'm glad I didn't go to the Friday one. It was suppose to be at one of the campsites, but at the last minute it started to pour down rain. Luckily the park had put up a big canopy for security to use, and they let the winter campers use it for their party. The same weekend as the country concert there was an air show at Melbourne Airport. Luckily the country music was so loud that the noise from the airplanes didn't bother me!
