Good Evening from Marathon Florida----Grassy Key to be exact.
Let me bring you up to speed on what we have been doing. We stayed in Sebring until last Thursday then we headed south. Ron’s brother and his wife were staying at Highland Hammock so they spent one afternoon with them and on Wednesday night they got to see a super good show at the Rec Hall with Mike and Kathy---a comic and a singer----both made for a good evening. (see links below). They must have had a good time because they were still laughing with they got back to the camper. I sure wasn’t laughing, they were gone several hours and it was time for my treats!

We met up with Harry and Bobbi at a restaurant south of Lake Placid and we were on our way south. We drove SE by Lake Okeechobee and on towards Miami. The guys stopped at the shooting range outside and did a little skeet shooting. All that noise really scares me---so I hid under the couch. Thursday night we stayed at the Miccosukee Casino. The humans enjoyed a $9.95 steak and lobster dinner, while I guarded the camper. They didn’t even bring me a little bite----darn. The next morning we were on the road and made it to Jolly Roger by mid afternoon. We are in the Keys.
As I have mentioned before, I do not like water; this place is surrounded by water. I do not like going over water; we had to go over 13 bridges to get here (on Friday the 13th, no less)! We are really parked tight in this campground---so I do get to look into the campers beside us. Nobody seems to have any birds, but the people next door have a cat. So I guess it isn’t too bad here. I’m just glad we didn’t have to go any further south and go over more bridges. There are 1700 islands in the Florida Keys. 43 of these are connected by 42 bridges. The longest is about 7 miles long and the shortest is 37 feet.
I failed at my guard duties miserably a couple days ago. When Ron went out to the truck mid-morning he couldn’t get the door open on the passenger side! Someone had hit it (probably backed into it with a trailer hitch) and bent in the metal in front of the door---then they just drove away. Ron called the police and so we had quite a crowd around the trailer trying to figure out what was going on. Ron and Harry were able to get the door working and we will get the truck fixed when we get home.

Sunday the humans all went to a celebration commemorating the 100th year since the first train ran the length of the Keys on the Flagler Railway. It was held on Pigeon Key, which was a camp for those building Seven Mile Bridge and then later as a home for the bridge tender and maintenance workers. The only way to get to the key is by boat (or a 2 mile walk). They opted for the boat. The lines were long, but they had a nice ride after the long wait. Today R&N went to Sombrero Beach and came home pink.
Bobbi is also doing their blog, and since we are traveling together right now, check out what she has to say---she will have different pictures and a different perspective of our travels. http://havetrailerwilltravel.blogspot.com/
